Sentinel Hockey

Our Goal

To extend our academy’s exceptional extra-curricular offerings to Sentinel hockey. Allowing young men and women who are enrolled at Stella Maris Academy to compete as Sentinels on the ice will provide an extension of SMA’s formation efforts to one of the most in-demand youth sports in our region.

Being Established:

Threshold of Participants. Our growing academy will need about 17 trailblazer hockey players in grades 10 through 12 to launch Sentinel Hockey. Families who are seeking an exceptional Christ-centered education should contact the SMA admissions office to learn more about the academy and tour to see if the SMA alternative is right for your family.

Long - Term Ice Plan. As part of phase 3 renovations, a priority is developing extra-curricular facilities that meet the needs of our current and future programs, including ice. SMA is currently in the planning and design phase of this work and anticipates early renderings to be available for the public Summer 2025! To support We’re All In, Phase 3 - click HERE!

In Place:

Academy’s Commitment. Extra-curricular program development is paramount to our academy’s mission. The board and administration have invested well into building opportunities for Sentinels, and hockey is no different.

Exceptional and committed Program Lead with Mr. Scott Pionk. Mr. Pionk is known throughout the region and beyond as a force on the ice, effective coach, and most importantly, driven by developing virtue and character in young hockey players.

Short - Term Ice Plan. Stella Maris Academy has secured ice time at Fryberger Arena starting as early as hockey season 25-26 from 2:30-4:00pm.

In the News!  Stella Maris Academy has entered into a cooperative agreement with Two Harbors, Silver Bay and Cook County.  Stella Maris Academy students in grades 9-12 now have the opportunity to skate for this new cooperative (North Shore Storm) starting in November of 2025.
